What a week! We had science presentations on Monday, JB 33 graduated today, and JB 34 passed their ServSafe tests today!!! Very exciting!
Cody taught us about the differences in eggs and why it’s so important to know where your food is coming from. He told us what the different words on egg cartons really mean and what to look for to find happy chicken eggs! Pasture raised is ideal which means the chickens are free to roam outside and do chicken things, but you have to be careful and look for pasteurized if you are an at-risk population or pregnant!
Jacob taught us about the benefits of eating dirt! Ok, not dirt, but bentonite clay. Ingesting a moderate amount for up to three months can help you remove toxins from your body and has helped people lose weight by helping them feel full. However, there are some things to be careful of. If you use the clay right after taking a vitamin or supplement, for example, it can actually absorb those and store in your body to dangerous levels. It was very interesting!
Although all of the students passed the tests from JB 33, Kole and Alex were the only ones who were able to complete the whole program, due to different circumstances for the others. Good job guys, we’re very proud!!!!
34 is now headed into the kitchen only portion of the program while we in the classroom take December to get everything organized for the next year. We’ll be painting, hanging shelves, printing, and just some general reorganization. This March will mark Year 2 in our shared building with Porchlight, and it is time to organize!!
Our next Information Session will be December 18 from 12-3 at 1708 Thierer Rd.
